A Phase Is Missing

An electricity phase, that is! Our house has a 3 phase supply whereas the vast majority of homes have a single phase supply.

I am always the first to arise and as I made my way around to the kitchen, I noticed that some lights were not switching on. Further investigation revealed the refrigerator had no power. The second heat pump was also dead as was everything in the studio including all of our computers.

Elsewhere, nearly everything was working.

Further investigation showed that one phase was no longer supplying power.

There then followed several frustrating phone conversations with Scottish Power and others. Pat was informed that an engineer would be out to investigate.

After some 5 hours had passed and the remaining power had been switched on and off several times full power was restored.

Pat received an Important Text from Scottish Power. ‘The problem was caused by faulty electrical equipment. As this was an emergency they could not inform us in advance’.

The nature of the fault was that only some properties were affected. Our neighbours were not.

Today’s entry shows our 3 phase electricity supply in the house. It is a pretty boring photograph, so I modified it with the Pencil App using a filter called ‘The Scream’.

I did not actually scream, however, we effectively wasted several hours investigating the problem and then making sure all was back to normal.

The partial power failed at 01:27 a.m, This information was supplied by the alarm system.

We also fed an extension lead from a working socket to our refrigerator.  Refrigerator and Freezer are both well.
