Seriously?

Hasan

The all too common story of a street dog who is cared for all summer long then left behind when folk go home. A regular dilemma with no solution. This lovely friendly lad, who we're calling Hasan, was in need of medical attention - ill or accident I don't know - when found several months ago by a someone living on the neighbouring complex. Their kindness and financial support led to his full recovery but a few weeks ago they went home (Europe). I think food, or money for food, was left with their caretaker  but dogs want company and so he keeps coming to our complex where unfortunately he is not welcome. Graham's dog Esra and my Rufus, do not like him, yet he's such a sweetheart. This eternal optimist joins us for our daily morning walk, tail held high - but I have to keep Rufus on a lead now. Gece, our garden dog these seven or more years, tolerates him. Sandy from another complex who seems to be here more here than there, is ok with him, and I'm hoping Rufus will learn to accept him too.

He's young, big and lively, and really wants to play. His main talent is jumping straight up in to the air, from a standing position, taking off like a helicopter, then making a perfect landing every time. I think he must have some gazelle in his DNA.

This annual situation happens all over Akbuk every winter. Dogs who are fed and cared for all summer long, but have no one and nowhere in the winter - most of the restaurants close when the tourists go home.  At least Hasan has food and shelter and a location where he is safe.  I'm so glad to help local charities like CoDA who do what they can for these ownerless animals, including working to find them forever homes both here and in the UK.
