What I've Done

By JohnGravett

Derwent sunset

We're at that time of year where the days are really short, the sun slipped behind Catbells at just after 2.30 this afternoon. Though we were treated to some cracking, though challenging light. To capture the range of tones in this, I used a reverse grad (1.2), and still had to bracket the exposure 5 stops. I also used a big stopper to try to smooth the water off a bit, but the light was so bright reflecting off the water that it only smoothed it a bit as the shorter exposures in the bracketed sequence were just a couple of seconds.

So looking forward to the days getting longer again.
