Governors Bay Jetty

It was a treat to visit the completed Governors Bay Jetty, replacing an old jetty built in 1874.  The old jetty had been severly damaged in Christchurch's earthquake and closed since 2011.

The new 300 metre jetty, opened in September 2023, has a very modern feel with access to the water for boats and swimmers, a place for fishing as well as broadened areas for community activities and events. There's a pontoon at the end and space to store kayaks.

It is a very successful $3.5 million project that adds to the lovely Governors Bay scene.

Another image in extras taken from on the jetty, looking towards the entrance to Lyttelton Harbour (a cruise ship can be seen in port).
