One daze at a time...

Incredible as it may seem, I managed to drag one of the kids out for a forest walk.
We had two great hours in the woods together. We mostly talked about massacres throughout the ages, and the usual lack of remorse by the perpetrators of genocide. We discussed the common characteristics. The fact that the killers are always convinced that they belong to a higher, purer order. That their actions are not akin to killing a fellow human being but more a sanitary act, an unpleasant but much necessary cleansing.
We talked about religious persecution in 16th century Europe. We talked about the Nazi's "Final Solution". We talked about Rwanda in 1994. We talked about Srebenica in 1995. We talked about Gaza today.
