whistle down the wind

the harbour waters are not still
yet there is no wind
the waters crease and swell
yet there is no wind
boats at anchor rise and fall
yet still there is no wind
leaves from their branches pull
yet there is no wind
window glasses rattle
yet there is no wind
there is a ringing of the church bell
yet no one pulls the rope and there is no wind
the fisher's wife feels the sudden chill
yet there is no wind
behind locked doors they feel the breath of hell
yet there is no wind
the dark spirits mutter and tell
there is no wind
and time will stand forever still
until there is the breath of the wind
