Oh No It Isn’t …

Mrs CBL and I together with our daughter and son-in-law were at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen for this evening’s performance of ‘Sleeping Beauty’.

It was our first visit since Covid and we were not to be disappointed, in fact the pantomime exceeded the very high expectations we had.  We would go as far as to say the it is the best panto we have ever seen/heard/joined in with!

It was full of fun and was a brilliant mix of singing, dancing and visual delights.  It had lots of slapstick, silliness, audience participation and all the fairytale magic of  a traditional pantomime!

The two main stars were Greg McHugh and Alan McHugh (they are not related).  Greg starred in a BBC Scotland televison cult comedy show called ‘Gary, Tank Commander’ and is hilarious.  Alan is a well known local actor, who is also the scriptwriter, this is his twentieth panto in a row which indicates just how highly regarded he is.

As his stories are always set in Aberdeenshire and he includes lots of local references and the use of Doric (the local dialect) which makes it even more couthy.  Mrs CBL awarded the show five stars (out of five!) and I gave it five too!

Before the show the four of us enjoyed a pre-theatre Italian meal.  For once we weren’t in our favourite Italian restaurant but this one ran it very close and we will be back!

All in all it was a brilliant day and the panto has certainly got us in the mood for Christmas!
