A Study Of Texture And Form

Going dark, if not dusk already, as I went out on a grey overcast day. What better than to photograph some rocks in b&w to bring out the textures and contrast.

It strikes me texture is often used in this context, when more accurately  referring to rough texture. And of course, it's best to highlight rough by juxtaposing against the opposite, in this case provided by smooth water. The light level was so low that f16 gave me 6.5 seconds at base iso, enough to tamp down the choppy lake surface.

I did some modelling with brushes to bring out the rock forms and emphasise the alternating tones. Not too bad, considering.
