Tree Sparrow ( Passer montanus )

A bit of a record shot from my own point of view.  For weeks now we have only ever had a couple of Tree Sparrows visiting the feeders.  Members of the bird club have been reporting double figures in their gardens, so a count of seven was very pleasing.

The Tree Sparrow population crashed from the 70s to the 90s.  Over the last 25 years, the population has doubled, however, it must be remembered that for every Tree Sparrow alive today there were 20 in the 1970s.  As a species they don't seem to travel far, there are few ringing recoveries beyond the continental channel coast.
