Billy was a hero

This statue at Balmoral Beach always catches my eye.

The inscription reads

1959 - 1978
For 17 years Billy was a favourite figure in Mosman as he went on
his daily rounds beside his master street sweeper with Mosman council.
When he died dog lovers decided to perpetrate his memory.
This statue is a gift to the people of Mosman as a reminder of the reliance of animals on man and the debt mankind owes to animals.

Apart from Hodge (Dr Johnson's cat) I can't think I too many faithful pets being
honoured in special way. Maybe other Blippers out there can hi-light some more.
Quirky statues like this really add to open spaces....and I bet Billy was a lovely boy!
