Dusk on the shortest day

The shortest day of the year. This afternoon, we went out for a short walk, and I took this photo from our local wildlife area at 4.30pm, about  half an hour  after sunset.
Some food prep and  housework has been undertaken in this household  today.
Later, our former neighbours B and P popped by with a card and for a catch- up. It's always  good to see them. They haven't  moved far away so we must try to see them (and their three teenagers ) again in the new year.
I phoned our friend L to arrange to visit her and her family tomorrow afternoon. Her Mum moved into a care home four weeks ago because she has dementia, and can't live safely alone. We were able to empathise with eachother. L's very learning disabled son, for whom we  used to provide respite care, now lives in sheltered accommodation  on the  way to the  care home so at least L can visit him and her Mum on one trip,(if she has the energy!).
