N is for Newquay

On Wed Jules and myself went up to Newquay on the latest leg of our A - Z Tour of Cornwall.

The weather forcast for the day was good so we decided to head off to the seaside, but when we got there it was overcast so we changed our plans and decided to head into the town itself.

Newquay is best known for it's great surfing beaches and party atmosphere, but there is more to this seaside town than just that. There are eateries a plenty, shops galore and top visitor attractions such as the Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay Zoo, Buccaneer Bay and nearby there is Dairyland Farm World, Holywell Bay Fun Park & Healey's Cider Farm.

We started the day off with a wander through town and the shops and had some lunch at The Central. There were so many places to choose from for food, but these guys seems to have a good menu and you could sit outside and watch the world go by. I must say that their beef burger in what I can only describe as a sweet saffron bun, was a bit strange to say the least, but Jules said that it was the best burger he had had for a long while.

After lunch we headed back up the main street to collect the car and drove the short distance to Newquay Zoo. Parking at the attraction is on a pay and display basis, which seems quite expensive if you then have to also pay to get into the attraction, but as we had free passes to get in we didn't mind so much.

Although the zoo seems quite small the range of animals they have there is fantastic they include Meercats, Tamarin, Antelope, Lynx, Wildebeest, Lumur, Otters, Tapir, Zebra, Red Panda, Pengins & my favourites the Lions to name but a few.

They have several feeding times around the park during the day where the keepers do talks about the animals. We saw the penguin feed, and for 50p a fish you can feed them yourselves. It's a great way for the zoo to earn some extra income for it's running costs and provides the kids and some of the adults with a special memory of their day out.

I would recommend Newquay Zoo to anyone for a good day out weather you take the kids along, or not.

Our next letter on the A - Z tour of Cornwall is 'O', so if you have any suggestions on places of interest, please let us know.

Bye for now x
