A mystery

We’ve passed this building, well I say building, many times over the years but have not been able to find out anything about its use. My guess would be that it may have been a water mill as adjacent is a channel with a brick bridge over it.

Only in winter can you get close to the building as dense vegetation makes the descent tricky. Even now you have to hang on to the corner to peer inside.

We’re wondering whether owls use the building as on the sheet of material are many white splodges and other deposits that look like large pellets.

On the way back we called in at the allotment for tomorrow’s vegetables. Potatoes, cabbage, parsnips and sprouts. Not the best of harvests to be sure.

I’m delighted you liked the steam locos at Rolvenden yard at the end of service. Thank you.

We used the drab, windy afternoon for present wrapping, cake decorating, cooking and other last minute jobs. I think we’re all set. We did have a bit of a joint strum through various Christmas songs this evening. Good fun - I don’t know what the neighbours thought!

All that remains is for Susan and myself to wish everyone the very best of Christmases, wherever you are and whatever you are doing. We hope it’s a good one for you and we look forward to reading all about it tomorrow.
