This is the day

The best gift ever ...

The day started with me putting the baby Jesus on the 40-year old Advent calendar underneath the star, which Smithers had put up yesterday. (Photo in extras.)

After our Christmas lunch we opened presents, and then followed  the treasure hunt. It went down brilliantly, and L’s reading has come on so well of late that she surprised us all by being able to read the clues out all by herself. We all followed the girls around as they searched for the tiny envelopes, although it has to be said that Granny quietly disappeared after a while for some strange reason.

When the girls finally arrived at the crib scene in the hall, the clue hidden in the stable with the animals told them they were really close to the treasure – all they had to do was turn around and have a look. Then they spotted the two little carrier bags I’d made, one for each of them, with their ‘treasure’ inside, which I’d just retrieved from a temporary hiding place while they were upstairs.

It’s been a lovely day, but now Granny and Grandpa are feeling really weary. We need to have an early night because we are all getting together again here tomorrow, which will give our daughter-in-law a break from cooking and give us all a chance to relax together after the busyness of today.

My very best wishes to all the lovely blippers who have followed my journal over the past year, or dipped in for an occasional look. I can’t thank you all enough for being such a wonderful, supportive, encouraging and delightful group of online friends. And a big thank you again to Honeycombebeach for introducing me to Blipfoto in the first place.

I wish you all every blessing in the coming year, and am ending the day as I started it, putting the baby Jesus in the spotlight. He’s definitely the best gift ever.
