Teasel

Last full day of our holiday and my last holiday run, which today was just over five miles on a flat-ish route.

We made the last picnic of the holiday and drove to Beer.  We had a wee wander and then found a spot on the beach and had our lunch.  It was warm, but the sun kept disappearing which made it cooler, though not cold.  We eventually put our stuff back in the car, and walked along the cliff path to Branscombe via the Hooken undercliff.   The Hooken Undercliff is on the cliff route between Beer and Branscombe. A slump in the chalk cliffs in 1790 separated a 10-acre (40,000 m2) tract of land, now a wooded and sheltered habitat with chalk pinnacles on the seaward side. It is reached via a steep footpath leading from the clifftop to Branscombe Beach.  The last part of the walk down to Branscombe mouth, was down through a field of cows.  I was keen to get through the field as quickly as possible!

We pottered by the sea, then walked up to the village and the old bakery where we had tea and cakes in the garden.  It is such a lovely and peaceful spot.  We then wandered around a bit, checking out a holiday cottage we had stayed in a few years ago.  TT had a plan for another cliff walk, but we weren’t keen.  We then just had to retrace our steps back, except we didn’t go via the Hooken Cliff, we walked along the top of the cliff back to Beer.  We were all feeling a bit weary when we got back to the car.

Once home, we used up the leftovers in the fridge for tea, and started to tidy up and pack our things up.  BB was a bit grumpy and just watched another Harry Potter movie!

This teasel was in the garden of the old bakery in Branscombe.  The extras show a boat offshore in Beer and a view from our walk as we made our way down to the undercliff.
