Hobblers at Posforth Gill

Hobbler/Blipper WilsdenWalker proposed a walk at Bolton Abbey this morning and two more of us, shamed by our Christmas eating excess, said yes.  We drove out and parked up at Barden Bridge and walked down the eastern bank of the Wharfe, which was in spate.  From above we could see that the famous/notorious Strid was completely wiped out and pretty ferocious.  WW asked if we fancied detouring to Posforth Gill.  I'm surprised I have never been here before as we would have passed by above on the trail through Desolation Valley to Simon's Seat on the top of the Moor, but we must have not heard it deep in the ravine below the path!  Rickie and I were very glad we had made the detour, despite being ready for coffee and cake, as it is a grand waterfall benefiting from the recent rainfall.

Returning to the Wharfe, with the sun still out, we paused at Cavendish Pavilion for curried cauliflower and chickpea pasty and sausage roll, washed down with ridiculous hot chocolates smothered in marshmallows and cream before returning to Barden Bridge via the western path, following the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' trail and heartily singing five gold rings and a partridge in a pear tree, much to the amusement of passers by.

Thank you to S for suggesting the idea and driving us, and to both for the excellent company.
