Schlumbergera

The scientific name for Christmas cactus makes me think of the modern Grade II listed Schlumberger building in Cambridge which has been described as a pert Baked Alaska.

My son was very interested in cacti when he was a young boy so I bought a Christmas cactus for his bedroom to welcome him home. The modern genus Schlumbergera was created by Charles Lemaire in 1858. The name commemorates Frédéric Schlumberger, who had a collection of cacti at his chateau near Rouen.

I have heard fireworks in the distance and was hoping to capture some close to home. Nothing so far. Happy New Year all.
