Brian's Bits

MULTI-purpose.

Main purpose - more practice @ shooting coins with particular ref to DoF.
Purpose two  -  a boast at getting a "Charlie 3"
Purpose three -only noticed tonight (31st REALLY) LOOK AT THE DATE - They KNEW!!! Did they not?
"Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms, died on 8 September 2022 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, at the age of 96.
SO - they managed to design, and have approved, and strike a set of coins inside three months.
MUCH more practice rqd. even directly above with suitable f for decent DoF and this happens.
       Observations?
The design is a straight crib, updated, of the first English attempt @ decimalisation with their "One Florin One tenth of a pound". BUT brought up to date inasmuch as they now acknowledge Wales. Florin had "our" three Lions twice, a Harp and a Lion Rampant; modern version is almost the same but they've interspersed
a Rose, Shamrock, Leek & Thistle between Shields
in lieu of
a Thistle, Shamrock and two Roses
I have NO coins as far back as "Lizzie I" - BUT - I think "Lizzie II" MAY have been our first Monarch named in English, followed by Charlie 3.
The Edwards were all EDWARDUS (I saw one online saying EDWARD VI)
The Georges were all GEORGIVS (Roman U) which I, as a kid read as "George gives".  All previous Charles were CAROLUS.
