NYE landscape

New Years’s Eve dawns bright and sunny and though clouds soon gather, the weather stays fine enough for a muddy walk along the Grantham canal.

Wildlife is limited to sleepy mallards and a pair of far livelier swans that speed their way along the water leaving a rippled wake.  Flooded fields are full of sheep and crows, the latter flying up in intermittent flocks to fly around the field and land once more.

It’s so nice to see the sun, and the still dark clouds provide the perfect backcloth to the golden light.

Then it’s a welcome drink in a canal-side pub before returning to our home for these few days so Nic and Elaine can put the final touches to tonight’s feast.

Our NYE dinner is delightful - great food, great wine, great company. We see the new year in with Hootenanny in the background. At one time we would all have been on our feet dancing, but instead we chat with music as a background.

And so goodbye to 2023 - a year we welcomed in when in New Zealand - and hello to 2024. Happy New Year to all you lovely blippers; let’s hope it brings good things both on a personal and a worldwide level.

My main today’s a view across the winter fields, with an extra of us welcoming in the new year. Apologies for the lack of comments at the moment!
