Comrie Flambeaux

We were on Comrie high street just after the bells to watch the traditional Comrie Flambeaux procession through the town. The procession involves local lads carrying 10 foot poles with sacking on top which is set alight. It’s an ancient tradition with dates back  a pagan fire cleansing ceremony to ward off evil spirits and give good luck for the new year. The flambeaux are paraded on a circuit of the town preceded by the local pipe band and accompanied by many locals and tourists.
Happy New Year everyone.
