I’ve had my slide projector out today and have been shining new light through some old frames.
In the summer of 1984 a loved-up German couple and two middle class Scots drove east to west across España, hugging the Pyrenees in a yellow Opel Kadett called Marigold. Over four weeks they went from Catalunya to the Basque country, ending up in Guernica where the two Scots painted their faces and crashed the local fiesta. They were  soon adopted by a gaggle of young bar-hopping girls, one of whom called all the shots.
“PEE-TER, MARTEEN, TORO EN LA PLAZA!!” And indeed there they found a mystified bullock to whom nothing bad happened.  After losing  the girls they ended up in a pastry cafe with a swarthy stubble-chinned man dressed as a fairy, who was a dead ringer for Klinger out of M*A*S*H.

I haven’t seen  or talked to another human being today.
