The Edge of the Wold

Recycling

Here are two local heroes, Paul and Matt at the Pocklington Household Waste and Recycling Site. Paul is in charge of the site and Matt is one of the site staff who will soon be moving to a new site closer to where he lives.

We are regular visitors to their workplace, usually two to three times a week, and they give us a wave as soon as we drive in with another load. Today we had 12 bags of rubble and several other bags with electrical wire, metal and a small amount of non-recyclable waste. We think we have probably saved hiring 12 skips by taking stuff ourselves, and most of what we take does get recycled.

The best part is that a visit is guaranteed to lift your mood because, these two men turn a chore into a pleasure. Paul has an infectious cackling laugh) that rings out across the site. Matt is always helpful with lifting rubble sacks. Any particularly interesting finds tend to be displayed prominently on the ledges around the skips - hence the Matt Lucas doll behind them in this photo.

Today someone had brought in a bag of unwanted Christmas paraphernalia. Paul and Matt donned the two Christmas Turkey hats, much to their own amusement and Paul’s cackle had everyone laughing.
