Pinotage

Our first wine club meeting of 2024 is members choice.
Six of us are presenting some of our favourite Christmas wines and mine is from South Africa.

Bellingham, The Homestead series, Pinotage.
£11. From Tesco.

The grapes originate from the coastal Stellenbosch Region bush vines which yield small berries with high concentration and flavour . Ripe red fruit, sweet spices and soft tannins are the hallmark of this wine.

The first vines were planted in 1693 by Janz Van Vuuren and his French Huguenot wife.
The estate was originally known as Belle en Champ ....meaning Beautiful fields.

It passed down from family to family until 1943 when Bernard and Fredagh Podlashuk purchased the somewhat derelict farm.
They set about restoring the house and vineyards.
The 80s and 90s saw vineyard developments, cellar extensions and the beginning of Bellingham ‘s Classic New World winemaking philosophy.

I hope the rest of our group like it as much as we do.
