"Hard wearing dots"

Like yesterday, the birds have been feeding non-stop, including some starlings.  This shot doesn't show the lovely iridescent sheen of their summer plumage but their winter markings are quite striking.  I've added a verse from Pam Ayers' poem which always amuses me.

"We don't go in for these fashionable clothes,
like old Missel Thrush, and his spots.
Me breast isn't red, there's no crest on me head,
we've got sort of hard wearing ...... dots."
