Herbert House

One of York's oldest Tudor buildings. The first historical record of its existence is in 1557, when it was bought by Christopher Herbert for 54 pounds, 10 shillings, and 8 pence. The plaque on the right tells us that Sir Thomas Herbert was born in this house in 1606. I had to google him, and apparently, he was an English traveller, historian, and  gentleman of the bedchamber of King Charles I, while Charles was in the custody of Parliament from 1647 until his execution in January 1649.

Now it's the home of York Gin. I've never actually tried this but have given plenty of it away as gifts. People tell me it's pretty good!
