Looking west...

Looking west from the main road through the village, this photo shows the church of Santolaya (or Santa Eulalia) and looks across the valley to Carabaño and Arboleya (which is obscured by the bell-tower). The church is largely renaissance but has features (all right, doorways) that suggest pre-romanesque origins; and it sits high on a spur that suggests that visibility from a distance was one of its attractions. I´ve added as extras:  E1, a view from the north side of the churchyard - the white wall, part of which just edges into frame, belongs to the cemetery; and E2, a general view over the Viacaba valley to what they promised us would be snow-covered uplands today - but no snow came.
