Funchal, Old Town

Just a few of the wonderful old buildings we visited today in Funchal. We started off on a walking tour with Anna, a German gap year student who is volunteering in Madeira booked through Madeira Heritage tours. She took us to several buildings we had not visited before including the wonderfully ornate Jesuit College Church of St John Evangelist in the top photo. An organist was playing dramatically too! After the tour we visited the Museum of Photography (middle photo), had lunch in a lovely vegan restaurant that Anna had recommended, then visited the  Museu da Quinta das Cruzes (bottom photo). Funchal is a very interesting city to visit, and as the weather was not so good today, it was an excellent day to explore.
