Return to the lakes

Our final day in Slovenia and the sun is shining. It would be churlish to resent the fact that we have not had this weather thoughout our stay - after all, every type of weather brings its own delights!!

As planned, we return to Lake Bled and today it really is picture perfect. The lake is mirror calm, the sky is blue and the snowcapped mountains provide the perfect backdrop.  It really is breathtaking - but such conditions lend themselves to being possibly just too pretty. It’s the chocolate box effect - or as G keeps saying ‘that would be a great jigsaw’!

We just can’t resist returning to Lake Bohinj - if it was beautiful yesterday, just what might it be like today?  The drive between the lakes is glorious in itself - rustic wooden farm buildings and tidy villages dotted among the beauty of the gently undulating valley all surrounded by the mighty snow topped alps.

And on the shores of the lake itself is the beautiful John the Baptist Church, its interior  famously covered with fascinating frescos - though sadly it is closed now. It’s another reason for a return visit to this beautiful country!

We drive to the airport via the delightful little town of Radovljica, its old town lined with pastel coloured houses decorated with frescos of their own, and enjoy an indulgent slab of Bled cream cake in a quirky little cafe. The diet will have to start next week!

I’m afraid it’s another set today! I’ve gone with an iconic view of Bled as my main, though I think the first extra is a better photo. Then there are others of Bohinj.

Thanks for following along with our latest travels - now it’s a return to normality!
(And of course, as I’m a day behind, we’re already home!)
