Jaye's Blip

Guess who I met the other day

Every Friday morning at the early morning Holy Communion service, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu presides if he's in Cape Town. As St George's Anglican Cathedral is our church when we're in South Africa, we're lucky enough to get to receive the sacrament from him and share a coffee and chat afterwards.

He's always been a bit of a hero of mine particularly for his stand on equality issues such as marriage equality and LGBT rights. The Anglican church in South Africa stands in a different place to most of the rest of the African provinces on this continent, something which I know is of some concern and grief to father Desmond.

He was kind enough to shake my hand for the very little I did in the 70's and 80's in the Anti Apartheid Campaign in the UK, which pales into insignificance when compared to his own leadership during those thankfully past years. He was also kind enough to pose for this photo.

God bless you Father for all your work and for your life and continuing ministry.
