Stuff and Nonsense

Eider Ducks #9

Our last full day in Cumbria and we chose to spend it on Walney Island. We timed the tide correctly, being there 90 minutes before high tide but the light was poor. Nevertheless, we had a great day - cold with hardly any wind - with loads of birds and we only met 2 people all day.
Plenty of birds to see and also a colony of seals on the tip of the island.
Despite Curlews being on the red list for endangered birds, there were plenty to be seen here today, feeding and flying around with their haunting call.
There were also lots of Eider ducks around, many not yet in full breeding plumage but still with their familiar woo woo sound :)
I've put a few more shots in extras as I loved watching the goldeneyes displaying and after not seeing red-breasted mergansers at all last year, this is the second time we've seen them this week - handsome birds. Curlews and seals make up the set for today.
