Take off

Taking off down to Yeovil in Somerset mixing business with pleasure early this morning, we I decided to drop in at the Ham Wall nature reserve.

With not the best weather in the world - grey overcast skies and rain threatening at any moment there was very little in the way of flying insects for which the reed beds are famous. The smaller birds were tucked away and one of the 'star species' the little bittern was on a no show. However saw this Little Egret and managed to scare the living daylights out of it as you can see - he really didn't like the intrusion on his bit of water! Very distant there was a grebe and even more distant a kingfisher was spotted by someone with a powerful scope! That was it really - a tad disappointing when you read the RSPB write-up! Am sure in the summer though with sunshine it would be a great place to visit again.

Good excuse for a scrummy lunch then though!
