A very long walk

Managed to persuade MrH to go on a walk as it was sunny and pretty outside for once. He’d been doing some work on the house and shed so we left relatively late at 2pm ish. I decided to take a torch just in case!

We walked down the canal and nearby river paths. Treats included a coffee and a cake ‘to go’ from a nearby cake shop we never visit, then on to The Daneway Inn (closed), then a long climb to The Bell Inn, Sapperton, where a pint was consumed. Then a walk in quickly fading light to The Crown Inn at Frampton Mansell which was very busy as there were some tourists in there hoping to eat plus a large but youngish shooting party, wearing fancy socks. Not sure why you’d need to wear socks to go shooting but it seems to be a kind of uniform where you can pay, sometimes over £100 for a pair of long socks and a colourful garter type thing you tie to keep them in place. Regardless, someone’s making a lot of money from it.

From The Crown the walk felt quiet and dark but we picked up the pace and it was downhill hill a long time so that was good. Made a table reservation for the local pub, once we finally had phone reception and had a decent value fish and chips on one of their latest table bookings. We had to walk fast to get there in good time and my ankles were very achey as my walking boots are a bit stiff around the ankle support area.

I was soooo stiff coming out of the pub and hitting the cold air. My hips and legs were not happy. 10 and a half miles walked but so out of practice with longer walks! It was good to feel I’d made something worthwhile and different with the day.
