What's in a name?

For thirty years I have known this as Crocus cvijicii (named after a Yugoslavian botanist) and pronounced svee-each-e-i but recent taxonomic revisions now apply that name to pale and white flowered plants from a particular area.  For now this is known as Crocus gramensis referring to the Grammos mountains in the West of Greece but the picture is still a changing one as more, conflicting, research is done.  One thing is for sure, genetic analysis has made naming plants a lot more complicated!!  It's a pretty thing, quite distinct in some features.  Mine are in a pot, it failed to thrive when I tried it in the garden in Norfolk.

A quiet morning then a meeting at work followed by testing the new menu aka lunch :-)   Very tasty it all was too.   King's reopens tomorrow after a two week break, I don't have any shifts this month though.  A dog walk as it got dark then had an evening out at a charity fundraiser.  Two speakers with a break between for raffle and a drink.  I was the second speaker with an account of how I became interested in alpines which included a walk with Hilary in the mountains where she lives.   Feedback has been positive :-)
