Samuel Stone

A statue in Hertford celebrates the life of the Reverend Samuel Stone, a local preacher born in 1602. With his friend, Thomas Hooker, he sailed to the New World on a ship called The Griffin and between them they established Hartford, Connecticut, USA. He named it after his birth place, but spelled it differently to avoid confusion.
