Flooding

Before dinner last evening we were given the news that there had been a very heavy snowfall in the mountains further along the river.  The snow had now melted and had caused serious flooding, resulting in a high increase in the volume of water now flowing in the Danube and the boats were unable to pass under the bridges. - the extra is a picture from a brochure taken in the summer when the water is at its lower volume.

We were fairly lucky in that because we were going to passau today, there was a boat moored there that was coming down into Regensberg.  It couldn't move either so we exchanged boats and both sets of passengers were able to carry on with their journey.  It took a bit of organisation on the part of the boat staff, but passengers were allocated the same cabin on the exchange boat, which wasn't a problem for us, but a nightmare for the crew who had to make sure all cases were collected and transported with us.
