Miranda

London is full of odd corners.  This statue of Francisco de Miranda is just round the corner from the fine Georgian house (with a blue plaque) in Fitzrovia where he lived for 8 years. He joined the Spanish Army and fought in both the American and French Revolutions.  He then fought for the independence of Venezuela from Spain.  He briefly ruled Venezuela as a dictator but ended his days in a Spanish jail.

We were on our way to view a wonderful exhibition of Australian Aboriginal burial poles in Rebecca Hossack's gallery close by.
