Lathyrus Odoratus

This is one of two stained glass panels in the house at Greys Court. These panels, depicting a coat of arms surrounded by local scenes, were popular in Switzerland in the 16th and 17th centuries. If you look closely at the centre  top you will see that someone has just been thrown off the top of the mountain. Whether this is Swiss humour or  a reference to an actual event we will probably never know. It is believed that the panel was collected by Sir John Brunner on a visit to Switzerland where the family had originated. The stone fountain (on the right hand side) is part of the Brunner family crest.
