Coffee break
This morning it was -19C on the top of the mountain, and would slightly warm up during the day, so Gavin and decided not to rush up the mountain on the first lift this morning. The rest of the group - about 25 of them - went to Madrisa, the other mountain in the village, as they had booked guides and were going off piste over the mountain towards Austria. A handful of us wanted to ski on the pistes and so we went up Gotschna, the main mountain that is linked to Davos.
As the conditions were so perfect today, we knew it would be busy. Being only 1 hour 45 mins from Zurich means that it is a popular spot for day visitors to come here to ski. It was sunny in a cloudless blue sky, it was very cold which meant the snow would stay firm all day, and there had been a fresh dumping of snow the previous day, all factors that skiers enjoy. We had a bit of a queue to get into the main lift up the mountain but somehow once up there the crowds seem to disperse and we never had to queue for a lift. It was -14C by the time we went up which seems very cold but as there was no wind and plenty of sunshine it was not as cold as it sounds, I coped well enough which means it could not have been that cold!
I came down after lunch but Gavin stayed to do a few more runs. I was feeling very tired as I had not slept well last night, and I tried to sleep but I never can sleep during the day so it was pointless. I chatted to Luke who is enjoying looking after Xena this weekend. Meriel is away at a hen party this weekend, thank goodness the sophisticated type where you drink mint tea and don't dress up as idiots with penis head bands and wander around embarrassing yourself.
This is where we stopped for morning coffee, it is a charming chalet style mountain restaurant. The extra is the view over the valley taken from another ski lift.
Now to get ready to meet the others for drinks and supper. Sorry it is a bit full on this weekend so I have not had time on journals.
