There was once a thriving market here.

When the plan was announced to dig up Northampton's historic Market Square and 'improve' it, there was almost no public support. The area has a long and important past and functioned well as an outdoor market. It was easy to reach and near buses and car parks.

Of course, the public voice was ignored. Here we are, one year into this 18 month project. Progress is painfully slow, and many of the market traders who were moved to a 'temporary' site (which was impractical for non-car using customers to access), have already given up trading or have moved to other towns. Some of those market traders were 4th and 5th generation market stall holders. History wiped out by a bone-headed council.

Change can be positive of course, but sometimes, it's change for change's sake.
