Morpeth pride

I wandered out looking for prideful, if that is a word, and was soon reminded that Morpeth town is full of pride. The scene combined 2 aspects. Firstly, the centre of this small market town has bucked the trend in the UK, by transforming itself into a destination shopping centre instead of the all-too-common dying high street. Secondly, it has really "gone to town" this year on the centenary of the death under the kIng's horse of suffragette, Emily Wilding Davison, who was buried here. So I looked up this morning to see banners and umbrellas plus dangling cups and saucers in the suffragette colours of green, white and purple. Apparently suffragettes ran tea rooms.

Was it moody? Well, the mood of a mall of closed shops at 8am on a Sunday morning is sombre and quiet, but this new addition lifted the mood magnificently, and I'm sure evokes a carnival mood when the people flock in.
