Blooming Lilly Pilly

We joined friends this morning at the Alstonville Plateau Sports Club. They'd offered to introduce us to lawn bowls but it rained. Nevertheless, the coffee was good. A newly-planted Lilly Pilly hedge offered a photo opportunity - both flowers and fruit. There are about 50 species of Lilly Pilly in Australia, closely related to gum trees. When Joseph Banks visited Botany Bay in 1770, as naturalist on Captain Cook's Endeavour voyage, he recorded the crew gathering and eating lilly pilly fruit. He commented that we eat with much pleasure tho they had little to recommend them but light acid (ANPSA webpage).  Maybe I should try some.
