Stuff I See

His Master’s Voice

I dug out this record today, which my Dad made in a booth at Manchester Central Station about sixty years ago, I guess I hadn’t heard it for about fifty years. Apart from some bad scratches, causing the stylus to “stick” and jump, it’s still reasonably clear.
It was good to hear his voice again, but the thing that stood out for me was just how heavy a Mancunian accent he had, I think that must have worn off in later years. When he died in 2004 he had more of a Merseyside accent, after living there for fifty odd years.
