Day Trip to Girona

We decided to have two trips this week and the first one was the train to Girona. Ten minute walk from our hotel to the station. The women behind the ticket desk was quite surly, we had no idea what she said to us and she wasn’t saying it in a smily manner. The talk continued (from her) we just looked at her and looked at each other and shrugged. Eventually she issues us with the tickets and off we go to the platform. 9:21 train taking 1 hour 15.

I had a dress on today as it was to be 20 degrees. This is weird weather for January I would think. They must be worried about the lack of rain .

Found a fabulous Cafe for our breakfast. Great coffee and not one but two types of croissants each. Yum.

We headed up to the Cathedral, 90 steps to the big door, made famous by a guy on a horse from Game of Thrones riding up the steps. I’ve not seen it but S says it was a great scene. We went in , quite impressive but after the magnificence of Toledo cathedral the rest are found poor seconds.

Next up a walk round the medieval walls of Girona which have a number of towers adjacent that you can climb up for an even better view.

By the time we walked round them we were hungry so looked for a nice place to eat but found that a lot shut for a day off in a Wednesday. We ended up getting freshly made empanadas of different flavours to eat on a Bench in the sun. Tasty.

We had another walk then headed for the 4:09 train back to Barcelona.

We popped into the supermarket at Corte Ingles as we were walking past it for chocolate, crisps, biscuits, water, blueberries and bananas. A mix of crap and sensible food!

I was glad to get back to the hotel and get my trainers off. It was a good day out. The sun was warm like a good summer day in Scotland, 19 degrees. We’ve missed two storms back home, it’s like another world!
