That Will Do!

The Bad Step*

It was all going so well - the two chaps worked hard, caused no trouble but after they had left we found The Bad Step.

This is what they left after removing part of the wall to fit the French Doors - these are wider than our existing ones but the only model in their range. As you see, it is neither a step nor not-a-step, projecting halfway across the length of one of the doors, clearly a trip hazard when that door is in use. That we would normally use the other is immaterial.

This morning came the man to finish the cut edge of the wall but he didn't have the right tool to remove the Bad Step. So later a chap came to make good, except he found that couldn't do it without damaging the frame of the door, which had been installed after the creation of said step. Tomorrow someone else will (?might) come to complete the job.

I know what they're thinking - that we should simply extend the Bad Step along the front of both doors and make simply A Step. But that won't do, as there is already a new sill to manœuvre, that we did not have before, so that would make it an Even Worse Bad Step and a daily trip hazard. And I'm not getting any younger.

I wonder what the future will bring?

* The real Bad Step is a particularly difficult section of the walk between Loch Coruisk and Elgol on Skye. On this Walking Britain site read the section 'Other Options which are Not easy' for an explanation. And no, I have never even contemplated this walk.
