A Handsome Hen...

...almost an optical illusion.

We're still replacing the Euphorbia plants that we pulled after Rudy the Dog poisoned himself on one. Today we went to a couple of nurseries on a mission to find more acceptable replacements. Both had a wonderful array of flowers and shrubs to choose from, but today, it was the non-flowering things that attracted my attention--chickens in particular. One place had larger than life, brightly painted chickens made from old oil drums. It was the real thing that won me over, though.

Just down the road there is a nursery tucked under the oak trees that has its own flock of chickens roaming freely around the grounds, eating whatever it is that chickens eat, which they must have been finding in abundance,  from the look of them. Following them around, trying to snap them before they turned away and went heads down, tails up for another morsel, was quite addictive. That must be why I wound up with 33 chicken shots..

A display of tomato cages in all the colors of the rainbow also struck my fancy, but I went with the handsome hen. You just never know when you will  get another good shot of a living creature.

Due to some unusual "atmospheric river" formation, it is overcast and humid today. Up to two inches of rain is predicted for tomorrow--unusual indeed for late June around here. As Peter said when we went to the mall to buy him swimming trunks, "board shorts",  in teen parlance, "good weather to play baseball"....
