Cyffordd coeden cnau Ffrengig ~ Walnut tree junction

The greatest glory of a building is not in its stones, nor in its gold. Its glory is in its Age and in that deep sense of voicefulness...which we feel in walls that have long been washed by the passing waves of humanity.”
― John Ruskin

Gwnes i ymweld â Ffynnon Taf eto heddiw i gael prawf clyw trylwyr iawn gan Sonja y awdiolegydd. Mae hi'n dda iawn, ac yn fwyaf ystyriol i'm cysur ond dal gwnes i deimlo fy roeddwn i wedi dod trwy amser caled. Roedd hi wedi ffeindio bod fy nghlyw wedi gwaethygu ac efallai y bydd angen apwyntiad ysbyty arna i. Y fath yw bywyd. Yn y cyfamser mae apwyntiad arall gyda fi gyda Sonja mewn chwe mis.

Gwnes i gymryd yr amser i dynnu ffotograffau o gwmpas y dre.  Dyma caffi 'Walnut Tree Junction' ar gau ar hyn o bryd. Mae e wedi cael ei effeithio gan y gwaith yn y depo metro. Rydw i'n gobeithio ffeindio fe ar agor un dydd.

Mae'r adeilad nesa yn ddiddorol hefyd. Dydy e ddim yn edrych fel rhan o'r caffi. Mae'n fwy fel hen gyfnewidfa ffôn neu fanc neu rywbeth. Mae un o'r drysau wedi'i fricio. Sylwais hefyd fod yna feincnod Arolwg Ordnans yn y gwaith carreg.

Mae tipyn bach o hanes am 'Walnut Tree Junction'. Roedd 'Walnut Tree Junction' enw gwreiddiol Gorsaf Ffynnon Taf ond cafodd ei cafodd e newid ei enw yn 1900. Roedd arfer traphont fawr yma hefyd, ond cafodd hi ei dymchwel yn 1969. Siom.

Ar ôl fy apwyntiad es i i lawr i siop goffi 'Coffi HQ' am baned a chacen cyn dal y bws. Roedd y siop goffi yn brysur iawn ac yn llawn o blant ysgol. Roedd yn ymddangos eu bod yn dod o Ysgol Uwchradd yr Eglwys Newydd (fy hen ysgol). Roeddwn i'n synnu gan y dalgylch, tan wnes i gofio bod Eglwys Newydd dom ond ugain munud i ffwrdd ar y bws.

Roedd hi eithaf idyllig yn eistedd y tu allan y caffi, bwyta, yfed a darllen ac yn gwylio'r afon yn mynd heibio.

I visited Taffs Well again today to have a very thorough hearing test from Sonja the audiologist. She is very good, and most considerate of my comfort but I still felt that I had come through a tough time. She had found that my hearing had worsened and I might need a hospital appointment. Such is life. In the meantime I have another appointment with Sonja in six months.

I took the time to take photographs around town. This is the 'Walnut Tree Junction' cafe, currently closed. It has been affected by the work at the metro depot. I hope to find it open one day.

The next building is also interesting. It doesn't look like part of the cafe. It's more like an old telephone exchange or a bank or something. One of the doors is bricked up. I also noticed that there was an Ordnance Survey benchmark in the stonework.

There is a bit of history about 'Walnut Tree Junction'. 'Walnut Tree Junction' was the original name of Taffs Well Station but it was renamed in 1900. There used to be a large viaduct here too, but it was demolished in 1969. Shame.

After my appointment I went down to 'Coffi HQ' coffee shop for a cup of coffee and cake before catching the bus. The coffee shop was very busy and full of school children. They appeared to be from Whitchurch High School (my old school). I was surprised by the catchment area, until I remembered that Whitchurch is only twenty minutes away by bus.

It was quite idyllic sitting outside the cafe, eating, drinking and reading and watching the river go by.
