Former Eveleigh Gasworks

I looked in vain for signs of the one remaining gasholder - a huge elevated bell-shaped tank inside a steel frame. The gas it held provided light on Sydney trains and illuminated the railway workshops from the 1880s. It was restored in 2016 - and won a heritage award - but I couldn’t see it from the street or from the platforms at Macdonaldtown station. The area is much larger than you can see here, fenced and locked and surrounded by railway lines and infrastructure.

That’s Kangaroo Paw growing wild in the foreground.

Hope you’re having an enjoyable Sunday.

Thanks for hosting Marlieske.
