Barra del Colorado wildlife refuge, Tortuguero

We were up before 6.00 am to take a boat trip to the wildlife refuge, as this is apparently the best time to spot the animals. We ascended an extinct volcano from where we were rewarded by this spectacular view across the forest canopy towards Tortuguero with the Caribbean to the left.
We saw several monkeys in the trees, including a mother with her baby clinging on to her. You can see this in the extra, although it isn't a great shot. I took some nice video clips of the monkeys swinging through the trees, but sadly can't put these on here.
We also saw some toucans, tiny red frogs, rather scary spiders and a well camouflaged butterfly in the second extra.
In the afternoon we cycled back through the banana plantations in torrential  rain - it's called a tropical rain forest for a reason!
