Quod oculus meus videt

Big Yellow Field

After yesterday's rain it was refreshing to see some blue sky on driving into work this morning. I pass this field most mornings and always marvel at it's size. It is fully 1 kilometre from its northern to southern edges.

A footpath crosses it at this point and the farmer has diligently cut a swathe through the hip high rape plants to allow passage. I only wish all farmers were equally accomodating. I have access to some historic mapping for the area as part of my work for the local Council and know that this field was formerly divided up into much smaller fields. These trees are the last indications of former hedgerows across the landscape.
