Great spotted woodpecker

This morning F and I went to Shrewsbiry to look at ovens and hobs for his new kitchen.  We were not impressed with the salesman who appeared to know very little about his products.  Luckily we had done our homework before going so had a good idea what he wants.  He wants to check another couple of places before making his decision.

Afterwards we went to Venus Pool Nature Reserve.  We saw Egyptian geese, shoveler ducks and plenty of lapwings amongst others but all were too far away to photograph.  Luckily this Great spotted woodpecker was on one of the feeders.  He didn't perch attractively on a branch for his photo unfortunately.

We looked around the field but there were no birds around.  There was a strong, cold wind so perhaps they had more sense than us!

Our best bird sighting was of a sparrowhawk in the lane as we were driving along so no chance of a photo.
